The role of AEL’s Outreach Service is to assist families and individuals within the West Lothian area who are affected by substance misuse and/or mental health issues.

Using a holistic approach to assisting our clients, support packages are tailored to our clients’ specific needs with the involvement and input of the client at the forefront of the decision making process.

AEL’s Outreach Service is open to anyone age 16 and over, and although the service is primarily targeted for a substance misuse client group it is also open to any vulnerable adult.

Support can be from one hour per week, up to an agreed amount of hours per week, depending on the clients needs and the agreed support package, and is available Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30am – 6pm.

Individuals and families can be seen in their own home or at other locations.

• Encourage responsibilities to financial commitments
• To assist in confidence building and self-esteem
• Offer clients various options for chosen lifestyle
• Encourage tenancy responsibility and independent living
• Encourage and signpost individuals to engage in their local community

As well as offering assistance and support with substance misuse issues our Outreach Service can provide help and guidance in a variety of other issues such as –

• Household tasks and homemaking
• Utilities
• Debt Management and Budgeting
• Social Interaction
• Training and Employment Opportunities
• Healthy eating and basic cooking skills
• Advocacy and assistance with form filling
• Signposting clients to other support networks, and external agencies where more expertise may be required
• Supporting and escorting clients where necessary to appointments, classes, community groups etc.

Self-referrals are particularly welcome and can also come from the following sources -

• Health Visitors and Midwives
• Woman’s Aid
• Prison and Offender Services
• Social Work Departments
• Housing Associations and Housing Officers
• Local Authority and Voluntary Groups
